Analysis of the match between Nigeria and Tanzania
Despite failing to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, Nigeria remain one of the biggest names in African football. At AFCON 2023, they reached the final and narrowly lost 1-2 to host nation Ivory Coast.
In terms of form, Nigeria have proven their quality with an unbeaten run of eight consecutive official matches. Their recent 1-2 defeat to Egypt was merely a warm-up friendly ahead of Africa’s biggest tournament.
Compared to Egypt, who boast superstar Mohamed Salah, Tanzania are clearly a much weaker side. The gap is evident in history as well, with Egypt winning AFCON three times, while Tanzania rarely make it past the group stage.
Currently on a seven-match winless streak, including five defeats, Tanzania sit as low as 112th in the FIFA rankings. Facing the reigning African runners-up, who are ranked inside the world’s top 40, Tanzania are likely to suffer another disappointing result.
