Analysis of the match between Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United
Tottenham suffered a 0–2 defeat away to Manchester United a few days ago, extending a disappointing run in domestic competition. It was Spurs’ eighth consecutive Premier League match without a win, underlining their alarming decline in form. The “Lilywhites” are currently 14th in the standings, only six points clear of the relegation zone — a position that offers little reassurance to supporters.
Moreover, home advantage is no longer a source of comfort for Tottenham. Contrary to the saying “home is where strength lies,” the North London side have looked poor at their own ground. Statistics show Spurs have managed just one win in their last 11 Premier League home matches — a meagre return for a team once expected to challenge near the top.
On the other side, Newcastle are also struggling with form. The Magpies have gone seven consecutive league games without a win, most recently losing 2–3 to Brentford. Their away record is equally unconvincing, with only two wins from their last 13 Premier League trips.
Even so, Newcastle have reasons to be confident of a positive result in London. Historically, they have dominated this fixture, winning six, drawing one and losing only one of the last eight meetings with Tottenham. Notably, in their most recent visit to Spurs’ ground, Newcastle claimed a 2–1 victory.
More importantly, Tottenham are facing a severe injury crisis. Head coach Thomas Frank is likely to be without more than half of his first-choice squad due to injuries and suspensions. With such a depleted lineup, Spurs risk another disappointing home performance.
Overall, this is a match in which Newcastle hold the upper hand. If they seize their chances, the visitors are capable of leaving London with all three points.
