Analysis of the match between Everton and Bournemouth
Last weekend, Everton produced an emotional comeback victory on Fulham’s home ground. The result extended David Moyes’ side’s unbeaten run to six matches across all competitions, although four of those games ended in draws, with only two wins recorded.
However, the Merseyside club have just been eliminated from the FA Cup after suffering a defeat to Sunderland in extra time. This means Everton will now focus solely on the Premier League as they pursue their ambition of securing a place in European competition next season. Currently, Everton sit eighth in the table with 37 points, just two points behind the top six.
While this gap is far from insurmountable, Everton must significantly improve their home form if they are to climb higher in the standings. So far this season, they have managed only four home victories and collected 16 points at Hill Dickinson Stadium — a return that remains unconvincing.
On the other side, despite losing star striker Antoine Semenyo to Manchester City during the winter transfer window, Bournemouth continue to be one of the Premier League’s most in-form teams. Over their last five league matches, only Manchester United and Chelsea have accumulated more points than Andoni Iraola’s men, who are also enjoying an impressive unbeaten run.
Thanks to this strong form, Bournemouth have moved clear of the relegation zone and climbed to 11th place in the table. They could even overtake Everton if they secure a victory by a margin of at least two goals in the upcoming clash. Nevertheless, Bournemouth’s away form remains a concern, with only Wolves recording fewer away wins than Iraola’s side this season.
