Analysis of the match between Doncaster Rovers and Port Vale
In the current standings, Doncaster are sitting 17th with 47 points. On the other hand, Port Vale are truly in a critical situation as they remain bottom of the table with just 31 points, trailing the safety zone by as many as 11 points. Even so, the visitors’ hopes are not entirely gone yet, as they have played two to three fewer matches than their direct relegation rivals. If they can make the most of those games in hand, the gap to safety could still be reduced significantly.
Their win over Bolton in the most recent round has clearly given Port Vale a major confidence boost. It was only their fourth victory in domestic competition since the beginning of 2026, but if we take all competitions into account, it is clear that this team are showing a highly commendable fighting spirit.
More specifically, Port Vale have lost only two of their last nine matches in all competitions, while recording three wins and four draws. Even away from home, they have shown considerable confidence by winning three of their last six trips. Those numbers partly reflect just how determined Port Vale are in this crucial stage of the season.
On the other side, Doncaster are not falling behind in terms of form either. The home side are currently on a four-match unbeaten run, including two wins and two draws. After a poor spell that saw them suffer three consecutive defeats from late February to early March, Doncaster have managed to regain the stability they needed.
However, what Doncaster must pay special attention to is their rather poor head-to-head record against Port Vale. In the last 10 meetings between the two sides, they have won only three but lost as many as six. Given the current circumstances, this promises to be a far from easy contest for the home team, despite Port Vale still being stuck at the bottom of the table.
