Analysis of the match between AS Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain
It is clear that Paris Saint-Germain F.C. are at their most vulnerable point this season. Their 1-3 defeat at Stade Rennais F.C. last weekend was not only a setback on the field but also saw Luis Enrique’s side lose the top spot in the 2025/26 Ligue 1 to RC Lens, who thrashed Paris FC 5-0 away.
This disappointing result is a poor preparation for the crucial midweek clash against AS Monaco FC. Beyond the tactical issues, cracks have appeared within PSG. Star forward Ousmane Dembélé reportedly disagrees with Enrique over tactics and squad selection, even openly criticizing his teammates’ mentality, accusing some key players of complacency after winning titles.
Enrique, on the other hand, insists that the statements from the 2025 Ballon d’Or winner do not represent the club’s official stance and “carry little weight.” In this context, the trip to Stade Louis II looks even more challenging, as PSG have won only once, drawn once, and lost three of their last five visits against Monaco.
Meanwhile, Monaco are entering the match on a high. They recently defeated FC Nantes despite being down to ten men from the 65th minute after Aleksandr Golovin received his second yellow card. This resilient victory boosts the Principality club’s hopes of breaking into the Ligue 1 Top 5 and provides strong momentum ahead of their showdown with PSG.
A win at Stade Louis II would give Sebastien Pocognoli’s side a significant advantage ahead of the return leg at Parc des Princes just over a week later. Conversely, another defeat could place PSG in serious jeopardy, even risking an early exit from Europe’s most prestigious competition this season.
